TBT: The Basketball Tournament


Hey everyone,

I’ve created a Pool for The Basketball Tournament (TBT), and this year will be my 3rd year running it.

If you’re not familiar with the TBT it’s a 64 team tournament where semi-pro and college alumni teams compete for a $1 million grand prize and is broadcast entirely on ESPN.

In the past, I’ve filled the pool with friends and friends of friends, however, I am still in need of 20 more participants for this year’s pool.

Quick background of the Pool:

- Buy-in is $40, I can accept Venmo, Zelle, or ApplePay

- I run the Pool on Google Sheets. I built an Entry Form for people to make their picks first and then once the Tournament starts I release a Master File so that everyone can view everyone else’s picks and the overall standings

- The Pool is also a 4 in 1 Pool: the $40 contributes to 4 mini games within the Pool:

$20 for a Primary Square (1 per participant)

$10 for the Reverse Square (if score is 84-82 then the 4 & 2 square holder wins the Primary square and the 8 & 8 square holder wins the Reverse square)

$5 towards a Bracket Pick’em

$5 towards the Prop Bets Questions (24)

- The Squares will payout as normal, at the half and end of every game, so you will have 4 chances to win during every game of the tournament

- The Bracket Pick’em and Prop Bets mini games will pay out to the Top 5 finishers and also a Top 5 composite standings of the two

- Between the 4 mini games there are 267 different ways to win money during the Tournament and we cap the Pool @ 100 people (1 square per person), so you have 2.67x as many chances to win money as there are people in the pool.

I apologize for the late notice here, I’m new to this forum, but am doing what I can to find serious participants to help fill up this Pool!


The Tournament officially tips off @ 12pm ET on Saturday 7/16/22, however, I will need all picks completed by 5pm ET on Friday 7/15/22, as I will be out of town this coming weekend - the Pool will still be updated, but I won’t have time to transfer everyone’s picks the morning of the tournament.

A couple of other notes:

I understand the majority probably aren’t familiar with this tournament, however, the Entry Form that I created will guide you through the teams and players in the tournament.

Feel free to make random or chalk picks for the bracket (there is an auto fill option for chalk picks), or use the several tabs I’ve included that displays all previous TBT statistics for all teams and players who have ever played in the TBT. I also have a matchups tab where you can compare two teams against one another if you’re stuck on the pick. All teams will have full rosters on display in the matchups tab.

One last bit of info I'll add is that the TBT itself is also paying out $30k to the Top 1,000 bracket finishers on their website. Essentially, you can early half of your buy-in for my Pool back just for finishing in the Top 1,000!

1st Place: $4,000
2nd Place: $1,000
3rd Place: $500
4th - 10th Place: $200 each
11th - 20th Place: $100 each
21st - 100th Place: $50 each
101st - 1,000th Place: $20 each
